Women, work, and opportunities: From neoliberal to feminist mentoring

Women-focused mentoring programs are often cited as an important tool to help address gender inequality at work. Despite their popularity, there remain questions about how useful they improving women’s career trajectories or transforming demographics the organizational industry level. A frequent critique of current women-focused efforts is that reflect and uphold neoliberal feminism have shifted from collective support individualized focus on competition accruing human social capital. These encourage women internalize subjectivities prescribe individual change while shoring up ideas meritocracy utterly divorced gender. I discuss feminist mentoring, which takes central tenets including focusing action change, can serve a countermeasure this form mentorship
